IHS Weekly Bulletin (9/21)

  1. Fall is just around the corner! Independence’s second annual October break is next week from Monday, September 28th to Friday, October 2nd! Enjoy the beginning of autumn with a restful, productive week off. You deserve it! 
  1. After the break, prepare your best look for Picture Day! Sophomores will take their photos on Wednesday, October 7th, Juniors will take their photos on Wednesday October 14th, and Seniors will take their photos on Wednesday October 21st! Check your school emails for a breakdown of the times by last name. 
  1. With the first grading period ending, the first half of freshman class officers have been elected! Congratulations to President Akasha West, Vice President Kate Le, and Secretary Megan Tran for winning the class election. Freshmen, be on the lookout for treasurer elections, coming soon!   1. Although we’re all distance learning, the student store is still running! Seniors, show off your senior pride with Senior bandanas, scrunchies, lanyards, and masks at the Twisted Stitches Etsy shop!

  1. And to put your fit over the top, senior class shirts are now available for pre-order! Sales are open to all students, staff, parents, and the overall community. This may be our only fundraiser for the year, so do your part in supporting & representing the Class of 2021! All proceeds will be going towards our potential prom, with Venmo, Zelle, & Cash being accepted. Please have your payment method ready while filling out the form. For those paying with Cash, bringing exact change is highly advised during the day of pickups. Shirts will be ready for pick up on Wednesday, October 21st on campus. Pre-orders end this Wednesday, on September 23rd @ 11:59pm!

  1. Speaking of student pride, let’s talk academics! Do you want to take math to the next level and compete with other people? Then math club is perfect for you! The goal in math club is to bring people together who are passionate about math and want to try out some competitive math. In math club, you can learn some cool math tricks and concepts that can aid you in a regular math class. Interested? Then check out the Discord server!

  1. UNICEF will be having their first general meeting this Friday, September 25th during lunch from 11:55 AM – 12:35 PM. If you even have the slightest interest in UNICEF, then please join them, and RSVP at  tinyurl.com/UNICEF-2020-2021-MEETING-RSVP
  1. Looking for another club where you can make new friends, create long-lasting memories, and give back to the community while receiving service hours? Then join Key Club’s first general meeting on September 22nd at 4:15pm! Come join them to learn what Key Club is all about and why you should become a member!   1. Good news! Another club that has come back for the 20-21 school year is Inderact! Join Independence Interact at their first general meeting next Thursday, September 24th, from 12-12:30 PM. Come to see what Interact is all about! The Zoom link is tinyurl.com/inderactmeetings, and the password is mochi. For security purposes, you’ll need to sign in using your school email.   1. Brought to you live by Lights on Trafficking… a LIVE Q&A on Instagram @lightsontrafficking ! L.O.T.’s president and VP will be hosting an Instagram Live to update general members on new L.O.T. activity. Get to know the monthly themes, new activities, and a possible speaker! Come join in on the fun Monday, September 21, 2020 from 11:50 PM to 12:20PM on Instagram, and feel free to ask questions! Afraid you’ll miss out? Don’t fret!
